Talk about and pray for church planing in ENC!

Talking points:
  • Pentecost is a Jewish holiday that occurred 50 days after Passover. It was primarily a thanksgiving for the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, but it was later associated with a remembrance of the Law given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.

  • It was in Jerusalem, during the celebration of Pentecost, that Peter preached for the first time about Jesus and the resurrection.

  • At the end of Peter’s sermon he called the people to respond:

Acts 2:36-39

“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

  • The people did respond and the church was born.

Acts 2:41

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

  • May 19, 2024, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the day the Christian Church was born.

  • Every church since that day has had a beginning of some kind. Some churches are intentionally planted, some grow organically, some churches are born out of necessity, but each church has a beginning that has roots in that first Pentecost when the church began.
